Almost every home today has a portable heater. With the cost of electricity going up and fuel prices rising you find more people heating single rooms instead of their full house. They are not just used indoors though because you can find many for camping and recreational use. Here we will go over various types of portable heaters and review the pro’s and con’s to each type.

Portable propane heaters are a highly used type of heater among the outdoor enthusiasts of today. They have man uses and come in many shape and sizes. They are great for setting up in your camp site or in an outdoor tent canopy. You will find them among the tailgaters at football games and concerts to your local. With portable gas heaters your are pretty much able to use them anywhere and they are the only type of heater that you will be able to do this with. With other types of heaters you will need some other source to power the unit.

The downside to portable heaters is just that they do use gas and you have to be able to store it properly. They do have an open flame as well so you will have to be careful in case of fire etc. And lastly you have to purchase propane to fuel it. Other than that the portable propane heater is a great one to use and is the more common found.

The portable electric heater is the next most common indoor portable heater found today. You will almost find at least one electric heater in each home in the United States. They come in all sizes from small box heaters that go in your bathroom to large baseboard heaters in a living area. You will also find these on back patios as well or even used by the outdoor world.

The downside of these types of heaters is that they require electricity. Because of this it does limit how portable they are because you cant take it somewhere without electricity. Though they don’t cost as much as central heating they do cost more than gas in most cases.

Another type of portable heater is the portable water heater. You may not think that they are used or easy to come by but they are used a lot with recreational camping. Portable water heaters come both with the propane and electric models and can be used for many different things. You can use them for remote showering to washing dishes all a nice flow of hot water. They act like a tank less water heater in most cases heating water as it runs through heating coils.

As you can see you can pretty much find any type of portable heater. If you need a portable baseboard heater to a portable room heater. There is pretty much something for everyone. Just make sure when you’re shopping for portable heaters that you do your homework and find out what the exact requirements are for electric and gas heaters. Also be aware of the safety features as well since you don’t want to get something that could be dangerous for your children etc.
