Propane heaters have been around for quit some time now and can come in many different models. Over the last few years propane heaters as well as natural gas heaters have come a long way with quality, efficiency, safety, and being user friendly. There are many uses for propane heaters and below are just a long list of the many different types and uses for each of them.

Propane Water Heaters: These type of heaters are very efficient water heaters that you will find most commonly in places that either don’t have natural gas or are in remote areas. These type of water heaters tend to be more efficient and will save you money throughout its lifetime. They cost about the same as an electric water heater and hook up in the same manner. You can find them both in the tankless or standard types. If you have a choice between electric or propane then you should definitely choose the propane option.

Propane Wall Heaters: This type of heater is basically how it sounds. They are heaters that are usually up against a wall in your home and heat an large room or space. They can also be found in bathrooms or bedrooms. The propane wall heater basically heats a plate that then radiates heat out into a room. Today’s wall heaters vary from the past in that they are more safe and efficient. You find these type of heaters in older homes or in remote areas. They are great for heating your home if you do not have central air and/ or wanting to cut costs by only heating one room at a time.

Propane Space Heaters: Space heaters are just another generic name for wall heaters or baseboard heaters. You can find propane baseboard heaters or wall heaters that all would be considered a space heater. There are several different types and models of propane space heaters available and can be found online. If your looking for another method of heating your space then you may want to research in finding a good propane space heater.

Portable Propane Heaters: Portable heaters using propane are probably one of the most sought consumer heater. The reason for this is the vast usage and types of heaters available on the market. You can find these type of heaters in almost any retail home improvement store that range in all sizes. These type of heaters are common for usage in camping and outdoor recreational events. You will find almost everyone at a tailgating party for football games having some form of portable propane heater. They will be as small as one propane tank with an adapter to something larger that heats large areas.

Propane Patio Heaters: Patio heaters are becoming more and more popular every year. I have seen more people with some form of a patio heater in their backyard or outdoor entertaining area. You can actually get really nice propane patio heaters for a decent price that are pretty much the same as the ones you find at local restaurants. They can come in all sizes and either stand up tall pushing warm air downward or they can sit on a table and heat the area were people are sitting. You can find these type of heaters at some hardware stores but look online since you can find them cheaper and usually with free shipping. They are easy to setup and can last a long time on a single tank.

Indoor Propane Heaters: Indoor propane heaters are very common and safe. Today’s heaters are much more reliable and safe compared to the past. People do not need to fear of using heaters made for indoors. I notice a lot of people concerned about fumes building up inside their homes. Though you should always be aware and safe about using heaters in your homes and always be cautious. Heaters today however have many safety features and there are many things you can do like buying detectors for excess carbon dioxide etc. These type of heaters fall in the category of wall heaters and space heaters as well. Mr. Heater makes a portable propane heater called Big Buddy propane heater that works very well for temporary use. Just make sure that you always follow the safety guidelines for any heater when indoors.

Forced Air Propane Heaters: This kind of heaters is one that you usually find in warehouses or large open areas. They can resemble the look of a jet engine is a way because of how they blow hot air at a high rate. Forced air heaters use a fan to blow extremely hot air into a space. They are very effective in heating large open spaces and can produce a large amount of heat. These types of heaters come in all sizes and range in the BTU output as well. If you have a large garage or shop you may want to consider this type of heater to heat your space. The one safety issue is that you have to make sure that you lay or set nothing in front of these heaters due to the extreme heat being put out and the flame they can have which could lead to fire or being burned. Another thing to not is that this form of heater can use a small amount of electricity to power the fan. They either plug into an outlet or can use batteries.

Above is just a few outlined facts about some of the different types of propane heaters available to consumers. Traditionally propane heaters are much more efficient and cost lets to use than electric heaters. Though these type of heaters are very safe to use, you still must show caution and adhere to all safety guidelines that the heater manufacture states you should follow. When shopping for any type of heater make sure that it has the correct BTU output for the amount of space you are needing to heat and that you do your home work and find out what other people are saying about the model your interested in.

The fact is that Propane Heaters are very safe and are a great source of heat that is efficient and cheap. The reason for this is that propane burns very clean and doesn’t produce to much carbon monoxide that is harmful to us. Though you should still be careful and adhere to all safety measures that you heater recommends.

Propane heaters come in all different forms and sizes depending on the individual need. A great indoor propane heater is the Big Buddy that is created by Mr. Heater. This propane heater can put out up to 18,000 BTU and will last several hours on a couple tanks. The Big Buddy gets great reviews and you can find it online in most ecommerce sites that sell heating or recreational supplies.

You can also find several other types of propane heaters like water heaters that run off propane. If you live in a remote area you may have a in ground propane tank that supplies your water heater. If this is the case you may want to consider updating to a more efficient tankless water heater. These type of water heaters provide constant hot water without the need to have a tank that reheats more water so you never run out.

There are also several portable propane heaters that are great for taking to the football game or out to the BBQ. These will come in all sizes as well and can be for camping or just something to heat the garage with. All in all you can pretty much find anything your looking for that will use propane and they are totally safe as long as they are used properly and in the right form.

Lately I have been seeing many people asking about Propane Heaters safety and the use of them indoors. Most people are concerned that using them indoors is not a safe practice. Though most are designed there are several models that let you use them in indoors and are perfectly safe.

Mr. Heater has a portable propane heater call the Big Buddy. It is a great propane heater that can be used indoors safely. It has several safety features like an automatic shut-off incase it detects too much carbon dioxide in the air etc. Also the standard safety features like auto shut off if knocked over as well. Its doe’s use 4 size D batteries or an A/C adapter that powers the fan to help circulate the heat into the room or space you’re heating. You are able to mount it on a wall if need and it also has the ability to use different sized propane tanks. Overall this is a great product by Mr. Heater and has hundreds of great reviews from happy customers.

Another heater that can be used indoors that has positive reviews is the Coleman ProCat Perfect temp Catalytic Propane Heater. It’s not as fancy as the Mr. Heater Big Buddy portable heater but it will also go well for indoor use. If you are looking to heat a garage and want to go with propane then I would recommend the Big Buddy but if you need something smaller this will do just fine. Also you will find on Amazon great reviews for this product as well so you know your getting what you asked for. This heater is only a 3,000 BTU unlike the Big Buddy 18,000 BTU output but will do fine for rooms indoors. It will last up to eight hours on one 16.4 ounce Coleman propane cylinder which makes it ideal for camping etc.

If you’re looking for something that is more on the commercial grade that could be used in a shop you could look at the Mr. Heater 45,000 BTU Propane Low

Intensity Radiant Tube Heater model MHT45LP. This heater is made for larger spaces and distributes heat via a 3 inch aluminized steal tube with polished aluminum reflectors. It has been certified to be safe for indoor or outdoor use.

These are just a few options when it comes to safe indoor propane heaters. But you should be always aware when using them indoors just incase something does go wrong. Just do your research and read other peoples reviews and you should be good to go. The ones I listed here today all have highly rated reviews hence the reason why I choose them out of the many I found.

If you are looking for a very portable highly effective propane heater then the Mr. Heater Big Buddy is for you. This heater was created with safety in mind and allows you to have a safe heater for indoors, camping, or anything you can think of. With this model you twice as much heat as the previous model did before. With the new design and intergrated hot air blowing system your Big Buddy Heater takes your heating to a new level. You can expect 220 hours at 18,000 BTU on one tank with your thermostat set to low.

The MH18B comes with safety features that shuts down the system before to much carbon monoxide fumes are released in confined spaces. There are also loads of features including:

A/C or Battery powered fan

Heat level control Knob for low, medium, and high heat

Wall mounting ability

Large control knobs for easy use with gloves

Built in Piezo

Automatic shut off safety feature

Overall this new portable propane heater is a highly recommended heater for the money. Below you will find several reviews that I found from people posting about the product on Amazon. Take a look and see if this is something you would be interested in buying.

By Christopher S. Mooney, January 21, 2009 From Amazon.com

Great heater when simple precautions followed:

I was concerned when I purchased this unit. There are a number of highly negative reviews on it. However, on further research, I have discovered that the circumstances leading to those reviews could have been avoided.

When one uses this heater with a 20 lb propane bottle & accessory hose, it is imperative that you always shut the tank off first & let the heater run until it burns off all the fuel in the lines.

*** IT IS IMPERATIVE TO FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE ***

If one simply turns the heater knob to the off position, it will trap trap 100 PSI of propane in the accessory hose. When high pressure propane sits in the rubber hose, it will chemically react with the rubber and leetch a light oil. The oil will build up and quickly work its way into the heater, clogging both the regulator & control valve.

Another very important recommendation is to purchase the gas line filter. This will catch the oily residue and protect the combustion components of the heater should one forget to follow the precautions above.

Keeping these precautions in mind, one will be able to enjoy a very well-build and flexible-use portable heater.

By Moneyman, February 8, 2008 From Amazon.com

This is the second Big Buddy heater I have gotten. We have short but cold power outages in my area and this heater does a great job in maintaining the house temperature at a comfortable level until the power and the furnace come back on. It’s also convenient because it can easily be moved from room to room and I also use it in my garage when working on projects. I bought a second one for my daughter and got her the hose with the quick disconnect and regulator for safer operation indoors since they tell me that the pressure in the hose is only 1/2 psi pressure.

By Derek Duross, January 31, 2008 From Amazon.com

Very useful heater that packs a punch

Got this heater this year and really love it. It does a really great job of keeping me warm while working in my garage. I love the fact that it takes two 1 lb. throwaway cylinders. The two tanks actually last a lot longer than I had anticipated. One of the best things about it is the fact that it can be moved anywhere I am working. Often times, those heaters on propane bottles are hard to position to adequately feel the heat. But with the big buddy, I can position up high, down low…you name it. Great heater.

This is just a few reviews I found online at Amazon.com from people who actually purchased this heater. Make sure you do your research always to make sure its the right fit for you.

So you’re looking to buy a propane water heater? Well there are many ups and downs to buying and using a propane water heater. They are the same when it comes to heating your water but have different costs when it comes to running them. Depending on where you live you can end up saving money using propane over electric.

Propane water heaters can be more efficient than electric heating. Electric water heaters actually cost people about ¼ to 1/5 of their yearly electricity costs. You can find water heaters in two different types. You will see the tankless water heater which costs more, and the traditional water heater that has a 50gal tank. If you can afford it you should go with the tankless since you never run out of hot water as you do with the models that use tanks.

There are some things you need to consider before investing into a tankless propane water heater. You must make sure that your home can handle the demand for it. You will most likely need to have a large in ground tank installed on your property unless you have it fed to your house by lines. Most houses though will require a tank usually installed in the back yard that you can have filled monthly as needed. They are perfectly safe and only are exposed on the top were the propane company can refill it.

Propane water heaters that have the storage tank actually heat water faster than the electric designs. This is due to the fact that you actually have a flame and the heat is direct. So your time for replenishing your hot water does not take near as long. For constant hot water you should go with the tankless hot water heater.

If your building a new home it’s much easier to install than if you have an existing home but even then you can switch to a propane water heater with no that much of a hassle. The only thing is that for most people you will have to install a tank in your yard. Which most are built to be underground so that they don’t become an eye sore.
